We’ve been fitting more and more motorised blinds over the past couple of years. They used to be a premium option that most people didn’t bother with, but the technology’s come on so much that they’re genuinely affordable now. And most of them are battery-powered, so you don’t need an electrician.
The obvious benefit is convenience — press a button on the remote and they go up or down. Sounds lazy, but it’s actually brilliant for hard-to-reach windows like conservatory roofs and skylights where you can’t easily reach a cord.
The child safety angle is a big one too. No cords, no chains, nothing dangling. If you’ve got young kids, that peace of mind is worth a lot.
And yes, you can connect them to Alexa or Google Home if you’re into that sort of thing. We post the occasional video of them in action on our Instagram — it’s one of those things that’s much easier to understand when you see it working.
